I was just thinking about this! I'm going to get a Patagonia Down Sweater for the car, and probably something heavier for playing outside. I was also looking at Kamik boots, but I would love to hear some reviews!

I prefer snow bibs with a winter jacket over. Make sure the pants have the rubber band then the layer that slips over the boots. I'm a big fan of Sorel boots. Generally daycare gives us notice on outside snow play days so then we'll bring in boots and weatherproof gear.

Im going to bite the bullet on the Patagonia down sweater for the girls this year. DD2 is fine without footwear because she won't be a great enough walker yet is winter. I don't think! But dd1 definitely needs a new pair of sorels.

I plan to get a down coat, snow bib or maybe snow pants, and boots, as well as a fleece for the car. Although honestly I got all these things last year and she wore everything except the coat exactly once. We got so much snow that she could never really play in it since it was always taller than she was!

I was just thinking about this too! I will have a 1 year old this winter. What do you guys do about getting in and out of carseats? Do you take their jacket off and buckle them in, then put their jacket back on before getting out of the car? It seems so cumbersome...

I have no idea what winter jacket to buy either! She will def play in the snow, tho not for too long, as I don't know when she'll walk and how good of a walker she will be.

@snowjewelz: are you expecting LO to be car to door? Or do you walk and take mass transit a lot? That would change my decision on what gear to get for the city!

I was just thinking about winter gear too – oh the joys of living in a snowy climate!! I think we’ll just get the same sorts of stuff we did last year.

We do 1 pair of snow boots, 1-2 pairs of snow pants with bib (2nd pair if we can a good deal/on sale), 1 winter coat, several fleeces, 2 pairs of gloves/mittens.

I leave all her snow stuff at school, because they go outside every day that’s over like 25 degrees and just bring it home on the weekend to launder. She doesn’t play outside after school at home in the winter because it’s too dark/cold/late, so I don’t need a second set of stuff at home – just bring her school stuff home on the weekends for her to use then.

Coat: she had a North Face down coat last year, not sure the exact type. Very warm but not too bulky.

Fleece lined hoodie: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/53837?feat=83471-pprrright I like this one to wear more as a jacket (so, like early and late winter). It’s bulkier than the fleece above, so harder to layer under a coat, though you can do it.

@snowjewelz: I had a 1 year old in the winter as well (december baby), he was just walking and we took him out to play in the snow exactly once. It was a riot and we took a video because he literally stood in one place. If he attempted to move, he fell down. He had snow pants, a winter coat and boots. We used them that one and only time.

@looch: hahaha I can totally see that happening.. Dec baby here too! I feel like I'd want her to get that experience even if it's just that once lol. I guess I'll look around for 2nd hand snow suits!

@yoursilverlining: gotcha! I guess the blanket works and I can avoid buying a great jacket till when she's 2 and will really be outside more

@snowjewelz: yeah I think he should still have a winter coat for the times you'll be out for a bit walking a but longer. But I wouldn't waste money on a NF.

I plan to get a nice, thin but warm zip up fleece for the car. We park in a heated garage so at home it's not an issue at all. When we get places I usually bundled her in a blanket and carried her and hustled to the door of wherever we were going.

I'm thinking I will do similar to last year- she had a good, warm puffy coat, and I got very cheap snow pants (bib style) from target. We had hand me down boots (sorel I think) but will need to get her new ones. And I bought waterproof mittens last year that were too big so they should fit this year still.

The baby will wear Cs hand me down fleece bunting type snow suits.
