I want to get a ring sling for my bday, but I don't know much about them. So, what is your favorite ring sling and why?

I hear a lot of good things about linen ones! I have a girasol wrap that i had converted to a ring sling by Sleeping Baby Productions. I like it because it's so pretty and it's now soft and worn in (used is really a nice option, because breaking them in sucks pretty bad). E always preferred a hip carry, so for us, a ring sling was the quickest option that also didn't take up a ton of space in my bag!

@MamaBehr: can I add to your question?
Is the ring sling good for newborns? I'm hoping for something that is quicker in and out than the moby, since I'll be chasing a toddler too. And where to buy, used or not?

@blackbird: so what are some brands for linens?
@Foodnerd81: from what I understand ring slings are awesome for newborns! I've never had one though...

@MamaBehr: I have a tablecloth ring sling converted by Sleeping Baby Productions and my son and I loved it from 15-20lbs, I didn't get it until he was 15lbs and by 20lbs it was killing my shoulder, though friends have told me wrap conversions are better about this.
@MamaBehr: @Foodnerd81: I traded for a Maya Ring Sling for LO2 and intend to use it from day 1; I'm hoping it'll give me flexibility the moby didn't especially while chasing a toddler I can update about that in 6 weeks or so! There are quite a few brands: maya, sakura bloom, and then Sleeping baby (http://www.sleepingbaby.net) sells linen slings and there are tons of others. I've heard wrap conversions like blackbird has are the absolute best. Used you can get on local babywearing sites and there are quite a few facebook babywearing sale sites. New my favorite shop is mom's milk boutique.

I have a linen RS from SnuggyBaby on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SnuggyBaby
Her slings comply with CPSIA and ASTM and she is a member of the BCIA (Baby Carrier Industry Alliance).
It’s been great – LO will be 3 in 2 months and we’ve been using it since she was a little over a year. I prefer the Tula now that LO is much bigger/older, but LO asked for the sling this past weekend and we used it without any trouble at all!

@Foodnerd81: I have a ring sling I've been using since DS was 5 days old (he's only 2 weeks now). There are some good YouTube videos on how to safely place/position them in the sling.

I got a Maya Wrap used (but still in its original packaging) for $5 at a church garage sale. DD1 was already 15 months, but I found it really handy for short outings or chores because it's so easy to use and takes up so little space when not in use. I did find that I couldn't wear her as long as I could in the Gemini because her weight was all on one shoulder.
When DD2 was born, I thought we'd use the K'tan that we'd loved with DD1, but I ended up using the ring sling so much more! I started wearing her in it at a few days old (maybe a week or so), and she LOVED it. I could easily keep her high and snug. We're still using it more than any of our other carriers at 5 months, though at 18 lbs, I'm starting to use the gemini again for longer outings. It's been perfect for play dates and outings and the general running around that comes with having a toddler.

@rattles: so glad to hear this! We had a standard tula and an ergo so I traded my ergo for the maya and I hoped it was a good gamble! Also you got an amazing deal!

@MamaBehr: I know you can buy one off Sleeping Baby Productions: http://www.sleepingbaby.net/proddetail.php?prod=linen
An Etsy Seller named SavvyDesigns101 is also a BCIA Member, CPSIA and ASTM compliant

I am still learning to use mine with my 3.5 month old but we got it from sleeping baby productions. She only opens her shop on specific days for orders and the next opening is May 4th.

I made myself a linen one and I love it. It is how I have primarily worn my baby from 8 weeks until now (11 mo). She likes being carried on my hip and it is so super fast to get her in it. It's super convenient and easy for running errands or doing quick walks somewhere. I do tend to put her in my woven wrap on my back (or sometimes stroller) for doing housework (because it is hard to get things done with a kid on your hip, even if you have two hands) or long walks (because my baby is 20 lbs now and if I'm walking 2 miles my shoulder starts to hurt carrying her in a sling).

I have one from Sleeping Baby Productions but unfortunately it's never worked well for us. I've never been able to figure out how to make the fabric on my shoulder comfortable and getting DD into it is such a PITA. And now that she has OPINIONS, she refuses to get in it anymore. I really recommend trying one before you buy, if possible -- I was so swayed by all the raves but it was definitely not a worthwhile purchase for me!

I have a linen ring sling by Porter Baby (now defunct I think) and I never loved it. I did not have it when DS was a newborn though. I got it when he was probably 15-20 pounds. At 27 pounds now, I don't even bother trying it. I wonder sometimes if a wrap conversion ring sling would have worked better for us than the linen.

@PurplePeony: @ShootingStar: Do your LOs liked to be worn in general? My 15 month old loves being worn, and I think he might like it if he were on my hip instead of my back.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the help!

@MamaBehr: she likes being in the Tula, although less so now that she's older. She always preferred the Tula to the ring sling, though I wonder if it was because I didn't get the sling until she was about 7 or 8 months old. I thought she'd like being on my hip because that's how I hold her when she's not in a carrier, but apparently I was wrong. ETA: or maybe she didn't like it because I was always uncomfortable and fiddling with the fabric. I don't know.

I am a major ring sling lover! I had a linen but once I got a wrap conversion I was sold! I use them from birth to about 20/25 pounds, but by that point my son had no desire to be worn anymore - we will see how my daughter feels about it!

@MamaBehr: Yup he was always happy to be worn. He was fine in the RS, I was the one who wasn't comfortable.

I use my 20lb 7 month old all the time! He loves it. It's comfy for me for shorter periods. I usually use it around the house quickly or in the yard. I plan to bring it to a baby shower this weekend to use. I'd post a pic but they have LO's face in them and I usually only post those on gold.
