I am just full of babywearing questions lately!! Anyhow, my mom made me a ring sling so I could see if I'd like it, and I do, but I'd like to get one that is a bit prettier, and made from a fabric that's a little better for babywearing. I can't really afford a wrap conversion...
Also, I want to put it on my Christmas list, which means I can't buy anything off of a swap group, because it's for my MIL to buy for me...
That said, is the maya ring sling an ok option??

Mayas are okay. It's a shame you can't take advantage of the swap or something similar-- it's a great time of year to be on the buying end because people are trying to save money and sell things for the upcoming holidays. But I understand needing to find something retail. Mayas are decent ring slings, but I definitely prefer a wrap conversion for wearing into the toddler years.

@Mrs. Twine: ugh. I know. I saw a beautiful rainbow RS on the Canadian FSOT that I want so badly!!! Ever since I read about carrying rainbow babies in rainbow wraps I've been obsessed with finding one for my rainbow baby :). I suppose I could ask for money towards it, but I'm not sure my MIL will go for it.

I don't prefer padded shoulders. They just bother me. I think Sleeping Baby Productions makes amazing slings... I have 3 of them! They're a great price. FWIW, if you can find a wrap piece to use, a conversion would be the most cost effective, even though they're more expensive in the beginning. My linen sling got uncomfortable before LO was a year old (and she's a lightweight), but I can still easily use my conversion now at 18 months.

@sslm: Maybe if you ask and explain your reasoning? They are going so much cheaper right now, and you could probably get something worth more than $100 in your price range just because of the lull.

I love love love my WCRS so would be hesitant to try a non-WC. The conversion by SJP only cost something like $20 plus shipping and I used a size 2 woven. If it's at all possible to ask for money to put toward it I would try for that, as you should be able to get a pretty good deal on a size 2 on the swap right now....it's been SO slow.

Amazon has free returns on the maya! I didn't like it, but liked the sleeping baby productions cotton one I got off a swap. But I still prefer my boba above all.

I love my Maya RS, but that is the only sling I have ever used (besides a cheap one from Target that went right back)!

I have a Maya ring sling and don't like it. I may sell before trying for number 2. I want a Beco Gemini instead. DH likes the hand me down Baby Bjorns we received.
